|New Website Launched for BME Communities|
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
11 March 2003
A new website has been launched today to help develop a partnership approach between local authorities and providers of housing support services for black and minority ethnic (BME) people.
BMESpark will serve as an online knowledge bank containing up-to-date guidance and research reports on the needs of BME service users.
The site also contains two databases of Commissioning Bodies' work in areas with BME populations and briefing on specialist and mainstream services. It will assist the Supporting People programme which has been set up to provide reliable, cost-effective housing-related services to vulnerable people.
At a launch event today, Housing Minister Tony McNulty said the new site would become "a valuable tool, contributing greatly to making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people from black and minority ethnic groups."
