|Council Launches Trail-Blazing Transport Project|
21 March 2003
City of York Council has today announced the launch of a £1.5 million traffic congestion management system (TCMS) which is understood to be the first of its kind in Europe.
The first phase of the project, due to be fully completed by the end of May, concentrates on providing real-time information on the citys car parks to better manage traffic flowing into them. The new system will monitor vehicles entering and leaving the locations and inform a central computer of any spare capacity.
Variable message signs at key locations will give motorists early warning if a car park is full and where alternative parking is available.
