The National Land Information Service (NLIS) project has announced today that over half of the UK's local authorities - representing some 209 councils - have signed up to receive and return land charge searches electronically.

Search requests for the NLIS are reported to have reached a record level, with 60,000 land and property searches processed by the NLIS Hub in February.

In a statement, Jan Boothroyd, NLIS Local Government Coordinator, said:  "As the only official and secure land and property search service, NLIS provides local land charge searches direct from source, giving customers a fast and seamless service that is focused on the needs of the citizen.

"The ever-increasing numbers of local authorities signing up electronically to NLIS is testament to the success of the service, illustrating local authoritiesÂ’ recognition of the huge benefits that it can deliver."
