|E-voting Pilot Technology Unveiled|
7 April 2003
Local Government Minister Nick Raynsford has this morning held the first demonstration of the electronic voting technologies, which are set to be piloted by councils in next month's local elections.
The Minister attended an exhibition to view the systems in action ahead of their planned implementation in May, and personally tested electronic voting via a range of technologies including the internet, kiosk, smartcards and interactive digital television.
Mr Raynsford, who was joined by representatives from the Local Government Association and Electoral Commission, met with several of the 18 local authorities involved in the pilot schemes and the technology suppliers who will be providing the councils with the necessary IT solutions.
