|New Socitm President Sets Out Agenda|

Fahri Zihni, newly-elected president of the Society of IT Management (Socitm), has pledged to raise the profile of local government IT professionals at national level over the coming year, Computer Weekly reports today.
"This is a national issue because the profile of the IT profession is low compared with the likes of accountancy and the legal profession," he said. Socitm is consulting on plans in this area with other IT organisations such as the British Computing Society and Intellect.
Mr Zihni identifies training as key to positioning IT managers in the driving seat of local government, and has been invovled on developing a new MBA scheme in conjuction with the Open University. He commented: "Hopefully the MBA will demonstrate to board members that IT professionals can be just as good managers and board members as anybody else".
