|Information Commissioner Warns on FOI|

Network News reports today on indications that the Information Commissioner Richard Thomas intends to enforce regulations on freedom on information rigorously across the public sector.
Mr Thomas is also quoted as warning public bodies to "get their act together" and prepare for the implications for the FOI Act before it comes into force in 2005.
He said: "This affects everyone in the public sector, even those at the most junior level. There's a lot of work to do in preparing staff - you need to know what information you hold, where to find it, and how to make it more easily accessible."
"Time is short and the next 18 months will go very quickly", Mr Thomas adds. "I won't be tolerant to those who say 'I didn't know it was coming'."
