|Excellent ICT Service Wins National First|
29 July 2003
North Cornwall District Council has become the first local authority in the UK to be awarded the highest score possible for a Best Value Review of its ICT service.
Audit Commission inspectors have rated North Cornwall's District Council's ICT service as excellent, with excellent prospects for improvement. On a strategic level, the service's aims were seen to be clearly linked to both the Council's own objectives and the national eGovernment agenda.
The inspection report noted: "The Council as a whole has taken responsibility for eGovernment... the focus therefore is on access to services that the public need, rather than a concentration on technological advances for their own sake." Inspectors also drew attention to good communications on ICT issues within the Council and high satisfaction levels amongst its users. Dave Witts, Head of ICT at NCDC, commented: "The ICT team works very closely with all departments across the council to help them find the most effective ways of making their services accessible. Importantly, our Management Team understands that ICT is not an end in itself but is a corporate resource that helps us make services more accessible to a wider range of people."
The Council is holding a dissemination event in the Autumn to share with others how their ICT service has achieved its success. To register your interest, complete this form including 'ICT event' in the comments box.
