Southwark Builds Online Community

8 August 2003

Southwark Council is to unveil tomorrow a major relaunch of its website, offering an improved range and quality of information and services.

The new-look site will feature a greater focus on community interaction, hosting online discussions boards to give residents an opportunity to speak out, with a number of online live chat events scheduled.

"Not only will residents be able to find the information they need more easily but, for the first time, will be able to share experiences, knowledge and opinions with one another", the Council said in a statement.

Councillor Nick Stanton, Leader of Southwark Council, added: "Southwark has long been associated with innovation - regeneration opportunities, state-of-art architecture, award-winning housing and pioneering anti-crime projects have all helped put Southwark on the map.

"The creativity behind the new site proves that we can push the boundaries in the virtual world too."
