|Research: Subsidise Digital TV Take-Up|
28 August 2003
Public subsidies from central government may be necessary to bring down the cost of accessing digital television if Ministers are to meet their 2010 target for switching off the analogue signal.
The recommendation comes from a new report from Strategy Analytics highlighting that the Government has many take-up barriers to overcome before viewers will be convinced in sufficient numbers to convert to digital TV.
Ministers are committed to ensuring that digital television reaches a coverage threshold of 95 per cent of households before turning off the analogue signal sometime between 2006 to 2010.
