|National Records and Archives Consultation|
1 September 2003
The National Archives is consulting on proposals to amend existing legislative provisions for records management and archives.
The review has been instigated chiefly by the need to deal with the enormous growth in digital records, their increasing importance to government activity and concerns surrounding their long-term preservation.
This consultation sets out a progressive series of possible areas for reform, starting with central government records and moving on to those of local and regional authorities.
Comments are invited by 21 November 2003.
