|ODPM Consults on CORE|
20 May 2004
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has launched a public consultation on the Co-ordinated On-line Register of Electors (CORE) project, which aims to create part of the essential infrastructure for online voting in future local, regional and General elections.
The two phases of CORE are intended initially to achieve partial standardisation of local registers, leading to a secure, nationally-searchable system offering UK-wide access to electoral registration data. The project is being managed by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, and is co-sponsored by the Department for Constitutional Affairs.
The consultation is seeking comments on arrangements for the first phase and how the second phase of national access and related issues could be taken forward.
Local authorities and other interested parties are invited to respond by 13 August.
