|E-Envoy Prepares to Log Off|
9 September 2003
The e-Envoy Andrew is to quit his post next April, it has been confirmed.
But in a sharp and final rebuff to critics, his Office - whose fate is uncertain - is set to take an influential new role at the centre of the Government's new media machine.
Details have emerged in the interim conclusions of the Phillis review of government communications, whose recommendations the Prime Minister is said to have accepted in full.
Responsibility for ensuring effective e-communications will fall under a new 'Strategic Planning and Development function', reporting to a new Permanent Secretary, and in which the Office of the e-Envoy will be intensively engaged prior to the new structure being put in place.
