|Web Archive Unveiled|
24 September 2003
Snapshots of 51 UK Government websites are to be perserved for future generations in the first online archive of its kind unveiled today.
The Web Archive is a new initiative by the National Archives to cache online information of "historical importance" from government websites.
The first tranche of sites chosen for preservation include those of the Prime Minister's Office, Deputy Prime Minister's Office and the Hutton Inquiry, in an attempt to capture a broad cross-section of the entire UK government web presence.
The archives are available to view free at http://www.pro.gov.uk/webarchive
