|Speeding Up Property Searches - A Joined Up Approach|

Ministers have praised progressive local authorities who have signed up to the National Land Information Service (NLIS) enabling homebuyers in their areas to benefit from high-speed, high-technology property searches.
The NLIS is in the first year of operation - over a quarter of a million searches of all types have been processed so far. Over 1,500 solicitors and conveyancing firms have signed up to the news service, which connects them with the 25 regional Land Registry offices, the Coal Authority, local authorities and other data providers.
Almost half of all local authorities in England and Wales are currently, or soon will be online and able to respond
electronically to search requests.
