Open Source Could Cut Councils' Costs

Computer Weekly reports on proceedings yesterday at the Society of IT Management's Spring Seminar, where speaker Nikos Drakos of Gartner told delegates of the potential savings councils could make by using open source software.

Drakos predicted that costs savings for users of between five to 10 per cent could be possible over the next three to five years. He said: "That figure might not seem a big deal, but it could change dramatically if open source proves its ability to support a wide range of applications and business models."
